OUR LEGACY
The History of K&K CPAs
Founded on experience since 2002. Strengthened by different perspectives.
SINCE 2002
2002 · K&K CPAs
2002 · FOUNDATION
A practice started by Mike Kwun in 2002
Our roots trace to the CPA practice founded by Mike Kwun, CPA in 2002. A mechanical engineering graduate of Seoul National University, Mike brought a structured, analytical approach to accounting and tax. Siho Kim, CPA later joined the practice, followed by Alex Youngmin Kim, CPA, bringing together complementary professional backgrounds.
02 · CONTINUITY
Alex leads the practice; Mike provides seasoned guidance
After taking on a broad range of client work, Alex Youngmin Kim became the lead CPA, drawing on his ability to analyze complex matters and develop practical responses. He now leads key engagements and firm operations. Mike Kwun has stepped back from day-to-day practice and serves as an advisory CPA, contributing his experience to significant matters and team decisions.
03 · BUSINESS EXPERIENCE
An adviser who understands business operations
Like Mike, Alex has a background in mechanical engineering. He combines this foundation and an MBA with experience as a Vice President at a private company. This business experience informs his work with small businesses, extending the conversation beyond tax filings to operations and management decisions.
04 · A NEW PERSPECTIVE
From medicine and academia to a new career as a CPA
Siho Kim earned a doctoral degree in medicine in the field of cardiac surgery and served as a professor in Korea. He later qualified as a CPA to build a new career in the United States and joined the practice. As a collaborating CPA, he brings the careful review and evidence-based reasoning developed through medical research and teaching.
05 · OUR APPROACH
Engineering thinking, practical scenario analysis
Alex and Mike share a background in mechanical engineering and a structured approach to solving problems. They examine relationships between variables, test assumptions, and consider the tax and cash-flow implications of different scenarios. K&K CPAs combines this analytical approach with business experience and evidence-based review to develop well-supported recommendations and practical paths forward.
WHY K&K CPAs
The K&K CPAs Advantage
Depth in analysis. Ease in working together.
01
Experience meets fresh execution.
We combine Mike Kwun’s experience operating a CPA practice since 2002 with Alex Youngmin Kim’s execution and technology skills. Our advisory and lead CPAs contribute complementary strengths, bringing experienced judgment together with efficient review of records.
02
We go beyond organizing the numbers.
Our two CPAs with mechanical engineering backgrounds examine the relationships between numbers and the structure behind a problem. Beyond preparing figures for a return, we review the context and assumptions of transactions and analyze the tax and cash-flow implications of different choices.
03
CPA expertise for complex decisions.
We draw on the varied experience of our lead, advisory, and collaborating CPAs to review tax and accounting matters. We aim to demonstrate our expertise through a deep understanding of your records and clear explanations of the reasoning behind our recommendations.
04
An easier way to work together.
Sharing records and explaining your situation should be straightforward. If email and digital documents suit you, we work digitally; if you prefer paper records and in-person meetings, we accommodate that approach. Our hands-on understanding of server and network management also informs our attention to record storage and backups.

Our approach
Check the numbers.
Explain the reasoning.
Complex matters benefit from a clear sequence: facts, issues, options, and follow-through.
01
Understand the situation
We ask what changed, what decisions are pending, and what needs explaining.
02
Connect the records
We compare returns, books, transaction records, and agency correspondence.
03
Clarify the issues
We separate confirmed facts from open questions and explain areas for review.
04
Define the next steps
Within the agreed scope, we organize preparation, sequencing, and follow-up.
Turn today’s questions
into a next step.
You do not need a perfect explanation. Start with what happened and what you would like to understand.
